Housatonic River Summer 2004
Our community project Housatonic River Summer 2004 brought together arts, environmental, educational and religious organizations in a 7 month schedule of events which received attention far beyond the geographic region known as the Berkshires. The project's focus was the Housatonic River, a natural feature whose historic, aesthetic and environmental importance was the subject of artwork, lectures, music (even a commissioned work!), dance, hikes and canoe trips, demonstrations, shows, newspaper and magazine articles, and town festival days. HVAL(SAL) published a book, Art and the River, as part of the project, and also a large 4-color map of the upper Housatonic watershed.

The 2004 project was so successful that another group of organizers has decided to continue the idea with their own version of the celebration, with HVAL's blessing and participation. Please see the current website for the 2005 activities: Housatonic River Summer Fest 2005.
