HVAL Project 2010

Images from the Fields: October 16 - 17, 2010

A collaboration with the Sheffield and Egremont Land Trusts

The Sheffield Land Trust and the Egremont Land Trust are teaming up to conserve an amazing corridor of farmland and wildlife areas between the two towns; there are roughly 2,000 acres in this area. HVAL has been asked to work with the trusts in mounting a show/art sale, which we have named "Images from the Fields," to be held in Sheffield this October 16 - 17 at a joint event with the Land Trusts.

We look forward to seeing you out working on your "Images from the Fields" - please note that
THERE IS AN OCTOBER 1 POSTMARK DEADLINE FOR YOUR REGISTRATION, OR INTENT TO EXHIBIT.
This will give us an idea of how many paintings to prepare for in the American Legion Hall, Sheffield, MA.

The primary stipulation about the artwork is that it must be inspired by a particular location in this Corridor area (not all fields! lots of water, buildings, woodland, mountain views, farmers...).

Please see the map for prime locations.

Images from the Fields paintoutWhile the paint-outs that we organized are now all completed, you may of course go out to this area on your own. HOWEVER, please be completely respectful of private property - this means: get permission from a landowner before entering private land, otherwise, paint or photograph from roadside locations only. Unless clearly marked otherwise, assume that all land off the roadside is privately owned, including fields, woods, farm roads, riverbottom, ridgetops, etc.

Wherever you are painting, PLEASE OBSERVE the old hiking motto: leave only footprints! It is VERY IMPORTANT for our relationship with the landowners/farmers, as well as with the land community itself, that we do not leave behind any materials, especially anything with solvents or paints.

The yellow marks on the map indicate prime spots along the roads for painting views of farms and/or landscapes.
