![]() This Festival took place in 2004! The website is still functioning for reference purposes only. Housatonic River Summer 2004 is a series of cultural and recreational events designed to increase public awareness of the importance of the upper half of this extraordinary river - between Pittsfield, MA and Kent, CT. Please see our entire calendar of events. The emphasis is on the river as inspiration for visual and performing artists. The summer¹s programs bring together artists, musicians, dancers, conservationists, art historians, educators, and interested people of all ages to celebrate the river and its future revitalization. Although recent efforts of various conservancy groups have ensured a more promising future for the river, there is much work ahead. The artists, cultural institutions, and river conservators hope to encourage the Upper Housatonic community to recognize the river as a treasured resource and a literary and artistic inspiration of national significance. River Summer 2004 was initiated by the Sheffield Art League in conjunction with dozens of cultural and conservancy organizations. Proceeds from the summer's events after expenses will go to a Housatonic River improvement project to be selected by our participating organizations.
