River Events: Walks, Races, Tours

May 1 - May Day Meander. 9 a.m. A nature walk/talk, bushwhacking along the West and Southwest branches of the Housatonic and finding "a path with heart." Meet at 9 AM at the west end of the Boylston Street footbridge, Pittsfield. Sponsored by the United South Neighbors Association and Berkshire Environmental Action Team. .

June 21, 7 p.m. - Summer Solstice Walk, Stockbridge, MA. Guided walk along the newly-constructed Mary Flynn Trail. Information: (413) 298-5595. Rain date: 6/22. Laurel Hill Association.

June 24-27, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Trails open for free, Frelinghuysen Morris House & Studio, Lenox, MA. Free access to hiking trails first week of summer season only. Information: (413) 637-0166.

July 3 - Sheffield River Festival. Canoe & Kayak race, Rubber Ducky race.

July 10 - RiverBelt Greenway Walk, New Milford, CT. Walk about 5 miles along New Milford's River Road. HVA.

July 15 - Riverside Vegetative Buffer Planting Tour. HVA Office, South Lee, MA. HVA.

July 30 - Guided Walk, New Milford, CT. Part of the Village Fair Days. HVA.

August 21 - Natural History Riverwalk. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Explore river habitats with Berkshire Museum Naturalist Dave St. James. Pre-registration required.

August 28 - Native plant workshop. 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Learn about ecological restoration along the Housatonic River Walk in Great Barrington. Native plant identification, native seed collection and plant propagation. Presenters from River Walk, Marconica and Plant Euphoria. Pre-registration required.

September 11 - Bridge to Bridge Riverside Trail Walk. New Milford, CT. HVA.

September 18 - Dalton Hinsdale Greenway Walk. (rain date Sept.25) sponsored by Housatonic Valley Association.

October 2 - Chesterwood Nature Walk. Stockbridge, MA. Chesterwood & HVA.
